In any hair transplant, there are two areas where surgery is done- the donor and the recipient. The donor area is the area from which hair is taken. The recipient is the bald area where hair is implanted.

The scalp is the most preferred donor area as it matches most closely with the lost hair. It grows long, up to 18-36 months (18-36 cm), and is easy to harvest from without leaving any visible scars. The scalp hair unit has 1-4 units and has more density per sq cm . It is also twice as thick as body hair & hence any transplant should use scalp hair as much as possible to get the best result.
